Nearly 6,000 jobs likely created with passage of AB 2389
(SACRAMENTO)—Assemblymember Steve Fox (D-Palmdale) today announced passage of his Assembly Bill (AB) 2389 to create and retain aerospace industry jobs in California and the Antelope Valley specifically. The bill passed with bipartisan support and now moves to the Senate for consideration.
“California is open for business,” said Fox. “We want companies to come to California, but more importantly, we want our homegrown companies to stay and grow right here in the historic home of the aerospace industry. The Governor has gone above and beyond to keep California competitive by putting this tax credit together in a mere six weeks.”
AB 2389 will directly create 1,100 aerospace jobs in California, and will indirectly create 4,782 jobs in supporting fields. Moreover, the tax credit will help keep our men and women serving in the armed forces supplied with the most high-tech equipment available when they are deployed in active combat zones.
Assemblymember Fox, working in collaboration with the Governor’s Office of Business Development, Assembly Speaker Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), and the aerospace industry developed this credit to specifically help aerospace companies currently bidding on Federal Department of Defense projects. Bids are due in July while the Legislature is on break and this credit is vital for keeping California bids competitive.
Assembly District 36 is home to Plant 42, the Mojave Air and Space Port, Edwards Air Force Base, NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Space X, Virgin Galactic, and hundreds of other aerospace companies. Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman are the two largest private employers in the district.
“The Antelope Valley needs jobs,” continued Fox. “This tax credit will employ people in my district and statewide in good, high paying jobs. These employers and employees will support local businesses, which will in turn create more jobs.”
