AB 288 by Assembly Majority Leader Chris Holden (D-Pasadena) passed out of the Assembly on a unanimous vote. This bill would create a partnership between high schools and community colleges to allow students to take college-level courses at their high schools or on college campuses. AB 706 by Assemblymember Susan Bonilla (D-Concord) passed out of the Assembly on a 77-0 vote. This legislation establishes the California STEM AmeriCorps (CalSTEM) program, which is designed to improve the academic performance of K-12 students in STEM subject areas, increase the number of college graduates in STEM disciplines, and forge pathways for students to pursue careers in STEM fields.
