Lucy Heymann is the daughter of two parents who are survivors and a sister who also survived the Holocaust. Her mother, father and sister were natives of Germany before the Nazis took over. In 1939, her father was placed in a concentration camp. Her family had enough money to buy her father out, and with the time they had, Lucy’s mother, father, and older sister fled to Shanghai, China where they spent several years. In 1947, they emigrated to the west coast and settled in San Francisco. The following year, Lucy was born.
