SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) recognized Liberty Valley Doors of Cotati as the "6th Assembly District Small Business of the Year" at a ceremony today at the Sacramento Convention Center.
"Liberty Valley Doors is a model for successful environmental business practices and community involvement," said Assemblymember Huffman. "I am proud to honor this green business on California Small Business Day."
Founded in the late 1970s, Liberty Valley Doors is a custom wood stile and rail door manufacturer that is committed to accelerating the transition to sustainable building, energy, and economic practices. A custom wood stile and rail door manufacturer, Liberty Valley Doors installed a 117 kilowatt, photovoltaic solar array in 2008 and is now manufacturing all of its doors using solar power. The company also recently started a line of doors made from reclaimed lumber and have built over 800 of them to date without cutting down a single tree. In January, Assemblymember Huffman presented this small business with his monthly Sustainable North Bay Award.
Liberty Valley Doors is also very active in the community. President Mike Pastryk donates leftover wood to area high schools for use in woodshop programs and is actively involved with his local Rotary Club and the Cotati Chamber of Commerce.
Each year, the State Assembly recognizes contributions of small business providers and their important role in the creation of jobs and growth for the California economy. The day began with workshops coordinated by the California Small Business Association, followed by a Salute to Small Businesses Awards Luncheon.
Assemblymember Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) represents the 6th Assembly District, which encompasses southern Sonoma County and all of Marin County. First elected in 2006, Huffman chairs the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee and also serves as Co-Chair of the Legislative Environmental Caucus.
