The Legislature has long recognized the importance of museums. Most recently, the Assembly passed ACR 40 recognizing May as Museum Month in California. But the importance of offering a free day to visit museums, especially to lower income children, shouldn't just be lauded during May – each month of the year is a great time to visit a museum! On February 6 2016 all museums in Sacramento will offer free admission (including the Capitol!).
Coordinated by the Sacramento Association of Museums and the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau, the 18th Annual Sacramento Museum Day is a popular cultural tradition designed to encourage all members of the community to experience the Capital City's incredible wealth of art, history, science and wildlife — at little or no cost. With 26 local museums participating, most will offer free admission whereas two destinations located in residential areas – the Sacramento Zoo and Fairytale Town – will offer half-priced admission to offset parking and traffic control costs.
