Physical activity and proper nutrition are beneficial to people of all ages. Below are some quick tips on how to stay active and healthy!
HEALTHY SUBSTITUTIONS

Instead of:

Try:

Cookies

1 piece whole-wheat toast with jam

Candy

2 cups low-fat, low-salt popcorn

Chips

1 piece fresh fruit

Cheese and crackers

½ to 1 cup fat-free or 1% cottage cheese

Pizza

½ to 1 cup of veggies, raw or leftover from dinner

Ice cream

½ to 1 cup low-fat yogurt (flavored or plain)

NUTRITION

  • Balance calories with physical activity to manage weight
  • Consume more of certain foods and nutrients such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fat-free and low-fat dairy products, and seafood
  • Consume fewer foods with sodium (salt), saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, added sugars, and refined grains

FITNESS

  • Get Stepping

Walk and talk with a friend, take your child for a walk, walk your dog, park your car and walk to your destination, walk up stairs instead of taking an elevator or take a walk after dinner.

  • Keep Moving

Keep a list of quick activities, like squats or stretches, near the remote so that you can be active during commercial breaks.

  • Go Play

Join a team. Pick an activity you love and round up some friends or join a community league.
