Sacramento, CA – On Tuesday, Assembly Bill 1872, introduced by Assemblymember Cathleen Galgiani (D-Livingston), passed the Assembly Health Committee on an unanimous vote. This bill provides reimbursement funding to care for California’s sick children.
“The California Children’s Services Program provides vital services to the most vulnerable Californians – children with serious medical conditions, such as cancer, congenial heart disease, cystic fibrosis and sickle cell anemia”, expressed Assemblymember Galgiani. “AB 1872 will ensure that California’s sickest children continue to receive the care they need and that those hospitals receive appropriate reimbursement for their services”
AB 1872 clarifies hospital inpatient reimbursement for non-Medi-Cal California Children’s Services (CCS) patients. Most children covered by California Children’s Services are also enrolled in Medi-Cal, but some are enrolled in Healthy Families or do not qualify for either of these programs. The costs associated with treating seriously ill children can be significant due to the severity of their illnesses.
Assemblymember Galgiani introduced this legislation on behalf of the California Children’s Hospital Association (CCHA), an association of not-for-profit regional children’s hospitals. “We are proud to have Assemblymember Galgiani as an advocate for California’s children’s hospitals and the seriously ill and injured children we serve”, stated CCHA President Diana Dooley.
