Assemblymember Rob Bonta is pleased to announce the availability of applications for the Young Women’s Political Leadership Program (YWPL).

The YWPL is a program that introduces young women in high school between grades 9-12 to the power and potential of political leadership. The program includes an intensive, one-day training at the University of Southern California (USC) on Saturday, February 9, 2013, and will be hosted in association with USC’s Unruh Institute of Politics, California Women Lead and USC’s Women’s Student Assembly.

The program will provide attendees with a wide range of political skills including message development, networking, and an introduction to campaigning.  Speakers and moderators include members of Congress, young candidates, and political operatives from the top of their field.

“The YWPL is an excellent program to encourage young women throughout California to pursue a career in politics,” said Assemblymember Rob Bonta.  “It is important to increase access of young women to leadership roles in public office so they can help future generations make a difference in society.  I am excited that young women in my district may have the opportunity to participate in the program and I encourage all those interested to apply.”

All high school girls living within Pacific Gas & Electric’s Northern and Central California service area are eligible to apply for these need-based awards. Scholarships will cover costs for travel, room and board, and conference registration fees. A chaperone will also help scholarship winners navigate the conference.  In order to apply for a scholarship, interested students should e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots.
