(San Francisco) – Encouraged by Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco), the Assembly Judiciary Committee held an informational hearing to discuss workers' rights at religious employers. Discussion centered on a United States Supreme Court decision giving religious employers wide latitude from anti-discrimination laws through the "ministerial exception" to workplace protections. The exemption has been a central issue with teachers at four Bay Area high schools administered by the Archdiocese of San Francisco.
