Fremont, CA—Assemblymember Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) announced today that he is unveiling his 2nd annual "There Ought to be a Law" contest for residents of the 20th Assembly District. The contest invites community members to submit ideas and proposals for new state legislation with the goal of improving communities throughout the state of California.
"I am eager to hear ideas from 20th Assembly District residents about ways we can improve California," said Assemblymember Bob Wieckowski. "This is a good way to promote civic engagement and whether it's a new law or refining or eliminating a current one, there are many positive steps we can take to help people in California."
The contest is open to residents of the 20th Assembly District and people of all ages are encouraged to enter. The winner of the contest will have the opportunity to travel to Sacramento, testify before an Assembly Committee on the merits of the bill, and will receive a commendation from Assemblymember Wieckowski. Assemblymember Bob Wieckowski currently serves as the Chair of the Committee on Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials, Co-Chair of the Select Committee on California’s Clean Energy Economy, and is a member of the Judiciary, Insurance, and PERS Committees. Wieckowski was elected in November 2010 to represent the 20th Assembly District which includes all of Fremont, Union City, Newark, Milpitas, and parts of Castro Valley, Hayward and Pleasanton.
