The Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care's primary jurisdiction includes area agencies on aging, California Department of Aging, long-term supports and services, Older Americans Act, Older Californians Act, senior citizen advocacy activities, the California Senior Legislature, services for seniors in residential and day settings and the California Commission on Aging.
As a member of the Committee on Governmental Organization, I have a vote in directing some of the state's most important interest areas such as emergency services, alcohol, gambling, tobacco, and public records.
The Committee on Water, Parks and Wildlife oversees the state's water resources and state parks. Water is an increasingly scarce resource which is vital to the agricultural base of my district. As a member of this committee, I have a say in how water is distributed throughout the state and can defend the flows our community farmers use to support their families and feed the world.
As chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee, I have the privilege and responsibility of ensuring the state operates within full view of public scrutiny. The committee serves to direct the lens of the state auditor when questions arise about the operations and financial standing of state agencies and departments.
