SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Nora Campos (D-San Jose) released the following statements in response to Governor Jerry Brown’s budget proposal to address the state’s budget deficit:
“The Governor’s proposed budget should serve as a wake-up call for all Californians. Unless we take a balanced approach to closing the growing budget gap, there will be deep cuts to many state and local services across the board. I am approaching this budget proposal as a framework and will be working with my colleagues to ensure we develop fair and balanced solutions.”
“Now is the time to ask the tough questions that the Legislature has long avoided: are government programs operating effectively and efficiently to address the needs of our state? And, are tax credits truly improving job growth in California? I am optimistic about working with Governor Brown and believe that his balanced approach to the budget means that we will be able to develop a long-term spending plan that does not disproportionately affect any one community.”
“We need to present the public with a budget that facilitates the type of economic growth that will drive our fiscal recovery forward. As we work through the budget process, I will thoroughly evaluate the Governor’s proposal and work toward a budget that reflects the priorities of Californians: job growth, better schools and safer communities.”
