Today, Assemblymember Alex Lee (D-San José) was appointed Chair of the Assembly Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials (ESTM) Committee by Speaker Anthony Rendon.
The Committee oversees bills related to toxic substances and hazardous materials, hazardous waste regulation, drinking water regulation, and pesticides.
This week, Assemblymember Lee introduced AB 38 to curb the harmful impacts of artificial light at night (ALAN). AB 38 is a reintroduction of AB 2382 and would require all outdoor lighting fixtures installed or replaced on state buildings and structures to have external shields to redirect light, be equipped with either an automatic or shutoff device, or be motion-activated.
Yesterday, AB 2949 by Assemblymember Alex Lee (D-San José) was signed into law by Governor Newsom.
Today, Governor Newsom signed AB 2031 by Assemblymember Alex Lee (D-San Jose). AB 2031 ensures mobilehome residents can bring a representative, such as a mobilehome advocate, interpreter, or attorney to meetings with park management so that residents have the proper support to navigate complex issues.

Yesterday, AB 1981 by Assemblymember Alex Lee (D-San Jose) was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom. AB 1981 allows jurors to be reimbursed for using public transportation and creates a pilot program to increase juror compensation, so that it does not become a financial hardship to serve on a jury.
