Yesterday, AB 1819, the “Stop Foreign Influence in California Elections Act” passed out of the Elections Committee and is now headed to the Appropriations Committee. The bill prohibits foreign influenced corporations from contributing to candidates, parties, or committees (including super PACs) in order to protect the integrity of California’s self-governance.

Earlier this week, AB 2382, to promote the safety of migratory birds, insects, and people passed out of the Business and Professions Committee with bipartisan support.

Today, AB 2053, the Social Housing Act, received the stamp of approval from the Housing and Community Development Committee and will be moving to the Appropriations Committee.

Today, AB 2206 to facilitate the enforcement of California’s Parking Cash-Out (PCO) program by requiring the unbundling of parking in commercial leases, passed out of the Transportation Committee.

Today, AB 2164 by Assemblymember Alex Lee (D-San José), passed out of the Judiciary Committee with bipartisan support and the support of both business and disability groups.

Today, AB 2050, Ellis Act reform was reintroduced by Assemblymember Alex Lee. AB 2050 would curb property speculators who misuse the Ellis Act from evicting buildings full of rent-controlled residents, many who have lived there for decades. The reform to the Ellis Act would ensure that this type of eviction cannot be used until after five years of property ownership.
