Dear Friends,
This year has brought with it many challenges. Too many Central Valley residents are suffering with the results of unemployment and we may still face more cuts to education if state budget forecasts don't improve.
Even with these sobering reminders of our economic struggles, we also have much to be grateful for. This year we passed Assembly Bill 36 -- legislation to protect working families from an unnecessary and burdensome tax on health insurance. The Governor also signed The Access to Safe Drinking Water Act along with four other bills. Together, these water bills show that we believe having clean water is a basic human right.
It has been an honor to serve you and I look forward to continuing to fight for the hardworking men and women of the Central Valley.

New Voters
Voting is one of the most important things we do as citizens in a democracy. To help meet the needs of new citizens and others who prefer to vote in Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tagalog or Vietnamese, a set of "New Voters" web pages in all these languages, plus English have been created. Click here for a voter registration form, advice on what to bring with you when you go to vote, instructions on how to vote by mail, and other useful voter information.

Warning for Business Owners
A group of scam artists posing as the "California Labor Compliance Bureau" is tricking businesses across the state into paying a phony $275 "processing fee" for informational posters.
The group is not a government agency and does not have any affiliation with the Labor Commissioner's office. The posters they are selling can be downloaded for free at the website address below.

District Happenings
OPERATION GOBBLE
Thanks to the generous support of dozens of local donors that provided more than 1,700 turkeys for local school districts, churches and non-profit groups as part of 2011 Operation Gobble.
A report by the Food Research and Action Center shows the Fresno area tops the list of 100 metropolitan areas with the highest food hardship rates. Rising unemployment rates in the Valley mean more families will struggle to put food on the table this holiday season.
The turkeys will feed 20,000 people in cities throughout the 31st Assembly District.
RACE FOR THE CURE
Hundreds of cancer survivors, their friends and family visited the AB 1000 table at the Central Valley Komen Race for the Cure!
We collected hundreds of signatures of support for this important bill that would require health insurance companies to cover chemotherapy in pill form at the same rate as IV chemo.
