SACRAMENTO-Assemblymember Henry T. Perea (D-Fresno) introduced AB 1523, The California Jobs Act, Thursday to give unemployed residents the education and training necessary to work on California’s High-Speed Rail (HSR) project.
“We need to make sure unemployed men and women in our state have the skills and training needed to work on high-speed rail,” Assemblymember Perea said. “This proposal will create new pathways to good-paying high-speed rail construction jobs so families can finally begin the road to economic recovery.”
More than 80 percent of the workforce needed to construct HSR will need a high school diploma and accredited construction training. The California Jobs Act will create a pilot, pre-apprenticeship training program for unemployed workers in California. Out of work and under-employed veterans will also be recruited for the program, which will include screening, training and job placement services.
Assemblymember Henry T. Perea represents the 31st District in the California State Assembly which includes the central San Joaquin Valley communities of Cutler-Orosi, Dinuba, Firebaugh, Fowler, Kerman, Mendota, Parlier, Reedley, Sanger, San Joaquin, Selma and the city of Fresno.
