(SACRAMENTO, CA) Assemblymember Bob Blumenfield (D-San Fernando Valley) honored Jacobi Building Materials of Canoga Park as "small business of the year" within the 40th Assembly District.
"The Jacobi family has demonstrated a true commitment to their customers and this community," said Blumenfield. "They have helped build the valley. Their family company has long been vital to local construction and has also been a longstanding supporter of many important local causes and charities."
Jacobi Building Materials sells a wide range of building materials – including sand, gravel, bricks, cement, and concrete – and tools for a number of different construction applications. It has been in business 7 days a week, 10 hours a day, 362 days a year for 52 years.
"This business has endured because of hard work and integrity," added Blumenfield. "It is a shining example of why we must value local businesses. Their success is our gain."
The company was established by Charles Jacobi, a former teacher at Winnetka Elementary School in 1959. He refinanced the family station wagon and added money from his teacher’s pension plan to open the company, which is now managed by his son Bob Jacobi and his wife Jane. The couple met while working at Jacobi Building Materials and married in 1978.
Bob Jacobi serves as Vice President of the Winnetka Chamber of Commerce. He continues the family commitment to give back to the community through supporting local chapters of the Boy Scouts of America, youth sports, local schools and their faith community.
