Sacramento – When a young person is diagnosed with cancer, he or she may also receive the additional shock of learning the very treatment that could save their lives, could also rob them of the ability to have children.
DID YOU KNOW?
- Each year 140,000 young people ages 0 -45 are diagnosed with cancer
- Chemotherapy and radiation therapies can cause infertility
- Recent technologies have made it possible for cancer patients to preserve fertility before they undergo cancer treatment
- Most health insurance policies don't cover fertility preservation
Join Assemblymember Anthony Portantino and Dr. Mitch Rosen, director, University of California San Francisco, Reproductive Laboratories and Fertility Preservation Program to discuss fertility preservation and legislative options.
Assemblymember Portantino is the author of AB 428 which simply calls for insurance companies to provide fertility preservation coverage for patients undergoing treatments known to cause infertility.
"I want these patients to choose the treatment option that is best for their health while helping them safeguard their reproductive ability."
Sponsored by Assemblymember Anthony Portantino, American Society for Reproductive Medicine and RESOLVE
