Sacramento – Assemblymember Ed Chau (D – Alhambra) released the following statement upon announcement of the Governor’s May Budget Revision:

“Today, the governor laid out a budget plan committed to maintaining the fiscal stability that has resulted from tough but necessary budget cuts, supporting temporary tax revenues, and an improving economy.

However, we must build on that stability. As we spend the next month reconciling our priorities, I will be reviewing the Governor’s framework through the prism of principles outlined in our Blue Print for a Responsible Budget, which calls for ongoing fiscal responsibility, strengthening the middle class, and delivering effective, efficient services for all Californians.”

Key Committee Clears Chau Bill Aimed At Addressing Language Barriers To Justice In California

Sacramento – Today, the Assembly Committee on Judiciary passed a bill authored by Assemblymember Ed Chau (D-Alhambra), to establish the California Language Access Task Force which would develop a statewide Language Access Plan with recommendations for court officials and staff to address language access issues in our court systems. Assembly Bill (AB) 1127 now awaits further review in the Assembly Committee on Appropriations.

“With over 200 languages spoken in California, the state faces unique challenges in the delivery of government services,” said Assemblymember Chau. “Nowhere are the consequences of this daunting challenge more real than in the courts where the unmet need for language assistance can ultimately result in justice being denied.”

Chau Bill To Invest In Clean Technology Passes Key Committee

SACRAMENTO – The Assembly Committee on Natural Resources passed a bill authored by Assemblymember Ed Chau (D-Alhambra), to ensure that a portion of cap-and-trade revenues will be used to develop, demonstrate, and deploy the innovative technologies necessary to help meet the state’s greenhouse gas emission reduction goals. Assembly Bill (AB) 1375 now awaits further review by the Assembly Committee on Appropriations.

“As the state works towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions, it is imperative that we invest in technologies to help meet our goals,” said Assemblymember Chau. “This bill will focus state revenue towards the development of clean technologies to achieve our emission reduction goals and create jobs.”

ALHAMBRA- Assemblymember Ed Chau (D-Alhambra) is encouraging local students to apply for a college scholarship from the revised Cal Grant program before the March 2, 2013 deadline.

"Today, every low- or moderate-income student who meets the academic standards is guaranteed a Cal Grant award and we must do everything we can to ensure that every qualifying student takes advantage of this extraordinary opportunity," Assemblymember Chau said. "It is important that no student is denied a chance to attend higher education for lack of money."
