LOS ANGELES - Assemblymember Isadore Hall, III (D – Los Angeles) has been named the 2011 Legislator of the Year by the Southern California Contractors Association, Inc. (SCCA) for his legislative leadership and commitment to job creation throughout California.
Assemblymember Hall is also being honored for his successful authorship of AB 720, which was signed into law this past October. AB 720 gives local governments additional tools to increase efficiencies and needed flexibility to conduct local road or highway projects. Given the limited public resources available to maintain and improve local road infrastructure, this measure will be critical for local governments seeking to make the most of taxpayer dollars while keeping workers on the job.
Curtis Farrow, President of the SCCA stated, “AB 720 is a tremendous boost for contractors not only in Southern California, but across the whole state. Assemblymember Hall showed significant political skill in maneuvering this piece of legislation through the Legislature and to Governor Brown. We commend him for his outstanding work in the Legislature and, most importantly, creating jobs.”
SCCA is an all-union contractor association with about 300 members throughout southern California. Member organizations work closely with the Operating Engineers, Laborers, Carpenters, Cement Masons, Iron Workers and Construction Teamsters to maintain high professional standards among construction contractors; encourage sound business methods, efficiency, harmony and cooperation between construction contractors and promote and defend equitable labor practices between Management and Labor throughout the construction industry.
Hall will receive his award during the SCCA’s Presidential Gala on Saturday, November 12 in Huntington Beach, California.
