LOS ANGELES – Sunday, July 6, 2014 – Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas today joined with Senator Holly J. Mitchell to urge the commissioner of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to conduct a thorough investigation into a CHP officer’s controversial arrest of a woman apprehended on the shoulder of the Interstate 10 Freeway in Los Angeles on Tuesday, July 1.
Assemblymember Ridley-Thomas said, “I’ve spoken to CHP Commissioner Joseph A. Farrow. He assures me he will personally oversee a full and complete investigation of the woman’s arrest and the actions of his department’s arresting officers. The people of California must have full faith and confidence in their law enforcement officers. Their confidence has been shaken by what they have viewed in a passing motorist’s video segment that depicts a portion of the arrest.”
LOS ANGELES – Thursday, May 29, 2014 – Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas wants California to strengthen its commitment to its preschool-age children by providing them with a high quality early childhood education (commonly referred to as ECE).
Assemblymember Ridley-Thomas says ECE helps children prepare for kindergarten, which helps kids have more academic success from first grade through third grade. “Our local schools are struggling to lower dropout rates and increase high school graduation rates. We must close our state’s persistent student achievement gap. If we focus our efforts on helping children learn what they need to know before entering kindergarten, we can help our students succeed academically and build upon their success through 12th grade,” he said.
LOS ANGELES – Tuesday, February 25, 2014 – Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas has introduced, AB 1907, a bill that would regulate the retail sale of compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuels for use in cars and trucks in gallon equivalents comparable to the sale of gasoline and diesel fuels currently sold at filling stations throughout California.
“Cars, trucks and buses running on CNG and LNG fuels are much better for our state’s air quality than gasoline and diesel. But consumers who drive CNG and LNG vehicles need to know they’re getting their ‘gallon’s worth’ when they fill up at the pump at a CNG or LNG station. AB 1907 will take the guesswork out of buying cleaner burning fuels for your passenger car or truck,” Assemblymember Ridley-Thomas said.
LOS ANGELES – Thursday, January 30, 2014 – Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas today praised U.S. Representative Henry Waxman for his more than 45-years of public service as a member of the House of Representatives and California State Assembly. Congressman Waxman today announced he intends to retire as the representative for the 33rd Congressional District at the end of his current term.
Assemblymember Ridley-Thomas said, “The dedicated and determined leadership that Congressman Henry Waxman has provided to California and our nation for more than four decades will be sorely missed when he retires at the end of his current term. Congressman Waxman is one of our nation’s strongest supporters of Israel, our country’s closest ally in the Middle East.”
