Leticia Gavilanes - 2011 Woman of the Year

Leticia Gavilanes is dedicated to promoting health and wellness in her community. Her work began 13 years ago with Montclair’s Por La Vida program by helping her community prevent illnesses such as diabetes & heart disease. She is an asset to Montclair’s Por La Vida Program where she serves as a Health Education Specialist. After she was diagnosed with diabetes, Leticia felt inspired not only to improve her own health, but to promote the idea of wellness to her community. Leticia has helped hundreds of community members develop the skills necessary to lead stronger, healthier lives, and to engage with their community. Her love for her community doesn’t stop there; she also volunteers for the American Diabetes Association & is an organizer for Montclair’s Breast Cancer walk. Leticia and husband Eduardo have three beautiful daughters, Thalin, Jazmine and Joanna.
Peggy Banas - 2010 Woman of the Year

Peggy Banas grew up in the Inland Empire and her father, Harry Faull, was Mayor for the City of Pomona in the early 1960’s. Peggy retired after contributing 22 years at Lanterman Hospital. Peggy is a shining example of the great good that can be accomplished by one dedicated individual. Generously giving of her time and efforts, she has dedicated over 3,700 hours of volunteer service to the Montclair Meals on Wheels program. As the Meals on Wheels Coordinator, Peggy receives request calls at her home, seven-days-a-week, from people in need of home-delivered meals. She visits each individual in their home to determine dietary plans based on their nutritional and medical needs. She is responsible for recruitment outreach to guarantee a sufficient number of trained drivers/delivery volunteers. Peggy’s efforts genuinely make a difference in the lives of some of the most vulnerable in our community.
Nora Delgado - 2009 Woman of the Year
Nora Delgado volunteered countless hours on community events, such as the Community Cleanup, 2006 College Fair, Annual Most Beautiful Yard Contest, Community Pride Picnic, and the Annual Toy Drive. Concern for the safety in her neighborhood led Nora to work with neighbors to start the Golden Arrow Neighborhood Watch group. Nora and her husband, Frank, have grown their Golden Arrow Neighborhood Watch to include 56 homes. Nora’s philosophy on community engagement is “Keep it simple, take pride in the community, and work together to keep it clean and safe.” Nora’s dedication to the safety of her community led her to participate in the 2008 Pomona Citizens Police Academy, a ten week program for residents of Pomona to encourage a proactive approach for crime prevention among the community. Nora’s tireless work and dedication has made the City of Pomona a safer community. Nora and her husband, Frank, have been married for 37 years and have two daughters, Audrey and Trisha.
