(SACRAMENTO) – Assemblymember V. Manuel Pérez (D-Coachella) made the following statement today regarding the Governor’s budget plan:
Earlier today, the Governor outlined his vision for moving the state out of debt and toward a stronger economic future. He is proposing many significant changes that will affect California families. Given the level of reorganization proposed, the Governor seems to be opening the door to a full reassessment of how the state can do its work better. As I continue to read through the proposal I will be looking particularly at how it impacts rural communities, local economic development like the Enterprise Zone program, and struggling families. Given the significant impact of the loss of the redevelopment program on local communities, I am concerned that even more cuts could undermine our economic recovery. I’m hopeful that our budget discussions this year can be done in a more collaborative manner and avoid the damage caused last year by the inability to come together on a balanced solution. While a formidable challenge, I believe we all are committed to producing an on-time budget.
