SACRAMENTO, CA – Assemblymember Mike Fong (D – Alhambra) issued the following statement on the report by Cozen O’Conner and the California State Auditor on the California State University’s (CSU) sexual harassment policies and practices:

“Over the course of two days, two separate reports have come to the same conclusion regarding the California State University’s (CSU) handling of sexual misconduct on campus. As the Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee, I am committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure we address the identified problems and provide avenues for healing for all those involved. Our students, faculty, and staff deserve a safe campus environment, and the knowledge that when they report any discrimination or misconduct, their voices will be heard, their complaints investigated, and the system will work.

“I commend the CSU for their willingness to provide a transparent and thorough review of how the system responds to allegations of sexual misconduct and sex discrimination. While they were the subject of the two audits, we know this is not a problem isolated to the CSU and we will work to address Title IX compliance at all higher education institutions in California,” said Assemblymember Mike Fong, Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee.
