Assemblymember Mike Fong's Statement on CSU Sexual Harassment Audit Hearing

For immediate release:

Sacramento, CA - Assemblymember Mike Fong (D-Alhambra), Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee, released the following statement regarding today's hearing on the Audit of the California State University’s (CSU) handling of sexual harassment cases:

“As the Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee, I am committed to working with all stakeholders in tackling this critical issue and using the authority of the State Legislature to address the barriers to offering timely grievance procedures for all incidents of sexual harassment and provide avenues for healing for all those involved. I am committed to working towards resolutions so that students, faculty, and staff feel safe on campus and that their concerns are addressed in a timely and efficient manner.

“We know this is not a problem isolated to the CSU and we will work to address Title IX compliance at all higher education institutions in California.  I encourage any stakeholders, whether legislators, faculty, administrators, or students who wish to offer their perspective on how the state could help improve the grievance procedures on our higher education campuses to contact the Higher Education Committee staff at AHED.Committee@assembly.ca.gov.”
