LOS ANGELES - Assemblywoman Wendy Carrillo (D-Los Angeles) issued the following statement in response to Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore's announcement that he is stepping down as head of the Los Angeles Police Department at the end of February:
“I’d like to express my gratitude to Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore for his unwavering commitment and relentless tenacity in leading our city’s police department amidst immense pressures and challenging times. Ensuring public safety remains a top priority for all Angelenos, encompassing both residents and businesses. In the midst of changes, the ongoing conversations aimed at supporting our law enforcement officers and fostering a Los Angeles that adopts compassionate approaches towards our most vulnerable communities signifies a step in the right direction.
With Los Angeles positioned to host the World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games, Mayor Karen Bass now faces the enormous task of appointing the city’s next Police Chief. This leader must embody both courage and understanding, continuing the vital work of shaping a more transparent and equitable department. I eagerly anticipate collaborating with our city leaders to move Los Angeles forward.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to Chief Moore for decades of dedicated service and wish him and his wife, Cindy, a joyous and well-deserved retirement.”
