Important Power Shutoff Information for Oakland, San Leandro

Wednesday, October 9, 2019

I want to share important information with you about the challenges that some of our communities are facing due to PG&E’s Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) that are intended to prevent wildfires during these dangerous weather conditions.

Map & Resources

Areas of East Oakland and San Leandro could lose electricity at any moment today. Since the PG&E website has been unavailable due to technical problems, you can check this website on SF Gate that also has maps of the affected areas.

Here are direct links to information from the City of Oakland and the City of San Leandro where you can access updated information about the power shutoffs.

Community Resource Centers

To support customers in the affected areas, PG&E has opened a Community Resource Center at Merritt College in Oakland in Parking Lot B. The centers will remain open during daylight hours only. Restrooms, bottled water, electronic-device charging and air-conditioned seating for up to 100 people will be available at these facilities.

Another location for emergency assistance will be at the San Leandro Senior Community Center located at 13909 E. 14th Street.
I know these can be challenging and certainly anxious times for everyone affected. Please stay calm, stay safe, and look out for your neighbors. Please also remember to check on anyone who is elderly or who has special needs to make sure they’re okay. The best advice is to stay off the roads during a power outage, but if you have to drive, go slow and use extreme caution as traffic signals will likely be out of service.

We’re all in this together and I know we’ll get through this together.
