Local Lost Hills Students Receive Backpacks and School Supplies
Assemblymember Salas & Aera Energy donate to the community
LOST HILLS – Today, Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) and Aera Energy hosted a successful backpack giveaway for local students in Lost Hills, Kern County. Collaborating with community partners like the Lost Hills School District, hundreds of students received donated backpacks from Assemblymember Salas and Aera Energy.
“Teachers and parents know that when students are prepared, they learn better and they feel better,” said Assemblymember Salas. “As a community, it is important that we work together to make sure every student gets the supplies they need to start the school year off strong. I want to thank our community partner, Aera Energy, for their generous donations of backpacks which helped make this event possible.”
Hundreds of students from throughout Lost Hills attended the backpack giveaway. Many families who may not have the resources to purchase new backpacks and school supplies were able to benefit from this event.
“When children start school ready to learn it helps build confidence and ensure success,” said Janea Benton, Aera Public Affairs representative for Lost Hills. “When we boost student success, we also help build stronger neighborhoods and communities.”
According to a study from the Kids In Need Foundation, class participation, self-esteem, and interest in learning all increased when students were given their own supplies at the beginning of the school year.
Assemblymember Salas represents part of the City of Bakersfield, the cities of Arvin, Hanford, Corcoran, Delano, Lemoore, McFarland, Shafter, Wasco, and the communities of Armona, Avenal, Buttonwillow, Home Garden, Kettleman City, Lamont, Lost Hills, Stratford and Weedpatch.
