Statement on Southern California Edison & the Thomas Fire

Thursday, March 14, 2019

“I am troubled by the news that Southern California Edison’s equipment led to the loss of life, property, and sense of safety in our community. The Legislature has held numerous public conversations over the last two years on a very difficult issue - responding to the increase in wildfires. My role as a Legislator, and one who represents an area severely impacted by a wildfire, is to help mitigate the impacts of future fires, ensure responsible parties are held accountable, while keeping the costs and services to everyday consumers in mind.  The Thomas Fire and the January 9th Debris Flow have left serious scars in our community. I am hopeful the full report will include concrete steps on how we can prevent this in the future. There will be ongoing work on this issue and I will remain a voice for my constituents.”
